What is  Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the therapeutic modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Fine needles are inserted into specific points of the body. By facilitating the body's self-healing system, acupuncture can assist with the management of symptoms in conjunction with conventional medical treatment of disease

How Acupuncture Works

Your body is a network of interacting energies. An even distribution and smooth flow of these energies will maintain health, whereas any interruption, depletion or stagnation in these energies can lead to disease. The principle of acupuncture is to aid these natural processes, helping the body to re-order the interaction of energies and heal itself.

How to Get Acupuncture Treatment Under ACC?

Visit a healthcare provider, which could be a your doctor, physiotherapist, or hospital. After conducting an assessment they will lodge ACC 45 injury claim form  to ACC on your behalf for review. If the claim is accepted, then you are eligible to receive treatment from an ACC registered acupuncturist.

Please note that ACC covers up to 12 acupuncture treatments in 12 weeks from the date of the first acupuncture treatment. It’s important to note that seeing other providers like a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or osteopath will not impact the allocated acupuncture treatments

ACC provides funding for two types of treatment modalities within acupuncture services: conventional therapies and adjunct therapies. Conventional therapies include traditional acupuncture, western acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and auricular acupuncture. On the other hand, adjunct therapies consist of cupping, Gua Sha scraping and moxibustion.
